Five New Year Fashion Trends

It’s what’s inside your head that makes you brilliant at your job, but fair or not, what’s on the outside impacts your career. At least that’s was 98 percent of you told PINK and Corset Personal Styling in a recent survey. Yet most say dressing for work presents a significant challenge and nearly 60 percent have “nothing to wear.”

So what’s the secret to hassle-free but chic professional garb? “January is a great time to review what you already have and then stock up on a few basics while everything is on sale,” Carrie Leum, Corset founder tells PINK.

Here are five business wardrobe must-haves:

Crisp white blouse: Wear a great button-down under dresses, sweaters or short-sleeve shirts to keep most of your wardrobe climate-appropriate year-round, says Leum. Try trendy options with ruffles or box pleats, or “the demure Working Girl-style shirts.”

Medium-weight, wide-leg trouser: “This look is really trendy in a higher waist.” Check out Burberry, Ann Taylor, Antonio Melani and Torrid.

Tunic: Available now in a variety of styles and fabrics, worn belted or layered for work, we like these from Piazza Sempione, Style & Co., Michael Kors and New York & Company.

Colorful scarf: “In a medium weight (not cashmere or wool), a scarf will work in any season.” Try Diane von Furstenberg, Eileen Fisher, Bindya.

Statement accessory: “Look for something larger that gets attention (and compliments) and revives your look.” She likes multimedia necklaces with different color metals and pearls. J. Crew and Janis Savitt offer options.

Minute Mentor: Leum suggests small ways to refresh your look.
