The Magic “Forward” Command

You have a great networking ally in your email “forward” command! Here’s what I mean.

This morning I received a LinkedIn event message from one of our Leading Women members who is offering a workshop on college tuition. (In case you live in Mass and are interested, here’s the information on how to get into the college you want and save on tuition for Parents of High School Students.)

I’m embarrassed to admit that after reading it my first thought was, “I’m so glad my son is through with college,” and my first impulse was to delete the email. Then I realized that this presented a great opportunity to nurture my network. So I asked myself, “who do I know in Mass who has kids in college?” And I forwarded the email on to several friends and colleagues.

In the same morning batch was a LinkedIn article alert. (Are you catching the theme about how to use LinkedIn to nurture your network?) It was a message from Sue Frederick who is featured in this career-related article. Ah Ha! I thought. I know just the person who could benefit from this unusual way of looking at the events that touch our lives. So on I forwarded that email as well.

I hope you take away three messages from this post.

1. If you’re not on LinkedIn and you’re a professional woman you should be.

2. Take advantage of the wonderful tools LinkedIn offers for staying in touch with (nurturing) your network.

3. Use your email “forward” command to strategically nurture your network with information of interest and use to them.

Network ON!
