The elections in the USA have brought an amazing sense of hope throughout the region and let me say, throughout the world. On election night, I wrote several of my friends and told them parties were held in Buenos Aires to cheer the new president elect.
What an amazing and beautiful sense when you find yourself in this kind of hopeful wave which makes you feel change is possible.
I am heading to Chicago in two weeks, hopefully getting first hand comments on what’s going on and how Americans are facing this tough time and working for “change.”
Latin America is looking forward to a new international relation with the U.S. and women will play a key role in this new endeavor; not only because two very influential Latin American countries are governed by women (Michelle Bachelet in Chile and Cristina Fernandez in Argentina) but because of the influence that women have in “changing” environments.
New business opportunities arise even as crisis strikes in the region. No country was held immune of the world financial crack, not even Latin American countries. But financial, economic, political and social crisis have been so common in Latin America that we have become a region that quickly adapts and tries to overcome critical situations with innovation or through creative new options.
When consumers see their income drop, companies manufacture their goods in smaller packages, and can sell cheaper. Service companies cut their costs, depend more on technology for their operations and try to appeal to a wider market segment.
This is a time in which Latin America and the USA have to find ways to complement their economies and business opportunities and foster international business relations, meetings, seminars and business exchange opportunities. And not only between the traditional cities, Miami, Houston, NYC, LA, Atlanta, but also to the less known cities in the USA and in Latin America as well.
Latin America: a beautiful and peaceful region; full of people whose hopes are set in the possibility of bringing wealth and peace to our countries, and happiness to our families.
This is an amazing time, a time to plan for the future and act proactively in the present.
