Some people are good with numbers and others are creative, but you are good with people. Your skill is to put people at ease and make them like you within a short space of time. In basic terms, you make a good first impression. You might not think that this is a skill, but you would be wrong. As it happens, there are plenty of organizations and industries that are crying out for your kind. In fact, you can make a lot of money if you land the right job. For all the non-believers, here are the best careers for people with people skills.
Sales
The great thing about being a people person is that you can make a case for your point of view. Whereas most people struggle to make a dent, you can provide them with the whole picture. That means that you can sell products and services. Thanks to your silver tongue, the potential buyers will be able to see the value in investing. Before they know it, they will have their goods and you a big, fat check in your pocket. Because you get a cut of the commission, your monthly wage will increase. And, you will never be out of a job because businesses need to sell to make a profit.
Lobbying
There are people that don’t like the lobbying industry. However, most lobbyists tend to get a bad reputation for no particular reason. Sure, they aren’t all great people that do a fantastic job. For the most part, though, a lobbyist makes a difference in the world. In this job, you have to deal with powerful people and politicians to make changes to suit your client. So, you might want an amendment to a particular piece of legislation or law. In that case, you would liaise with the relevant people and see if you can come to an agreement. As long as it is in everyone’s interest, everyone wins. By the way, businesses pay a heinous amount of money for a good lobby firm.
Attorney
What career lends itself more to a people person than an attorney? There aren’t many because your effectiveness depends on your ability to manipulate a jury. Okay, there is a lot more to the job than winning in the courtroom. But, you will have to battle it out in court, and you will need to orate effectively and make a good first impression. Plus, you need people person skills to deal with your fellow colleagues. A lawyer spends a lot of time cutting deals and finding compromises with another lawyer. If you can’t drive a hard bargain, you won’t make a very good attorney.
Advertising
When a firm hires an advertising specialist, they expect two things. Firstly, they expect creative results. And, secondly, they expect you to show them why the final product will be effective. So, when you are in the room, you need to work the room for the bets results. Good advertising reps can push when they need to, but they can also hold back. If you go over the line, they won’t hire you again. But, as you have the skills, there is no need to worry.
