Boost Your Confidence With These Workplace Tips

Ever noticed what the most successful people all have in common with one another? There are a few things, of course — drive and determination, and big ambitions. But one thing you’ll always see without fail in the personality of any successful person is a large amount of self-confidence. Business can be a testing game, especially if you are starting right at the bottom rung with your very own startup.  You need to have confidence in your business idea, confidence in the team around you and confidence in yourself that you can pull it off. Of course, occasional bouts of self-doubt plague just about everyone, even those of us who seem infinitely self-assured. But it is how we deal with these doubts and how we get back on our feet that show how truly confident we are. When you are head of a team, confidence isn’t just about you either – your team will want to feel they can place their trust in you, so a lack of self-confidence simply isn’t an option. Here are a few ways you can boost your workplace confidence and start tackling your job head on.

Quit the negative self-talk. We are often quite brutal in the way we address ourselves internally.  When you next find yourself beating yourself up about something in your head, stop and think for a moment. Would you speak to another person in that same manner? Chances are, probably not. Make a conscious effort to be kinder to yourself and to stop any negative self-talk in its tracks. There will be times where you need to think critically about your decisions, especially if you have done something wrong. But for the most part, beating yourself up gets you and your business nowhere.

Be open and honest with your team. A great business often has a few different hands working on it at any given time, to keep the service ticking over. Being able to work well with others can be hugely beneficial to the success of your business, but only if you can communicate with these people with confidence. A language barrier can often be a cause of some of us not feeling confident in the workplace, so take advantage of a service like Effortless English to help improve your language skills. Make an effort to check in regularly with your colleagues and keep them in the loop of everything that’s going on. A team that feel they are valued will put greater confidence in you, which will, in turn, give your leadership abilities a boost.

Always keep learning. No one gets things right the first time, and not a single person among us was born with an impeccable business brain. You will probably make a few mistakes along the way, which is totally natural. Try to see such mistakes as an opportunity for learning and growth. Additionally, always embrace the opportunity to pick up new skills, whether that is by doing some studying in your own time or by taking your business to events and conferences.
