Now that the presidential election is behind us, and we’re gearing up for the new year, many women in business are shifting their focus.
With anticipated healthcare reforms, no one knows that better than WellPoint CMO Kate Quinn.
“Our industry is being turned upside down. There are big changes to adopt,” says Quinn, a panelist at Little PINK Book’s recent 8th Annual Fall Empowerment Event.

In our Top Woman Profile, the 15-year industry veteran tells how she got her C-Suite job, the personal price she pays for it and how she plans to leverage her 450 member team and her $300 million budget to meet new healthcare demands.
Little PINK Book: Post election — what’s the biggest change you’re anticipating?
Kate Quinn: In a year’s time, there will be millions of previously uninsured flooding into the marketplace. A lot of the change falls on marketing. While about 80 percent of our business was Business to Business, soon it will be at least a 50 percent directly to consumers. We’ll need to sell to new customers, new distribution channels, at the consumer level rather than at the B2B level.
LPB: What gets you up in the morning?
KQ: It motivates me that we can have a big influence on the health of people around us. For a lot of people healthcare is broken. People’s two biggest worries are health and finances. If we can fix healthcare and health — that’s what motivates me to go to work every day.
