In Business, Organization Is Key

What is the point of running a messy business?

Think of it this way – you’re sitting at the restaurant, the waiter comes to take your order but knocks the glass of wine over. That’s ok! These things happen, however your table isn’t cleaned. The food comes out to you, it’s ok, but there is sauce all over the plate and you’ve been given two spoons to eat your steak. The manager comes out to apologise, but he’s covered in food!

Now, is that a good experience for you? Probably not.

The truth is, moments of unorganization are going to happen – that’s life. But if you can preach the merits of organisation to your staff and colleagues, then those moments of panic are going to limited to times when they are truly unavoidable.

How do you get started with organisation in business?

It really is simple – you just need to break everything down. Every single task in business can be broken down and divided into chunks and categories. The movement for organization in the workplace starts at your desk. Update all of your files, or even better – digitize them with Google Drive, camscanner or anything else. Label everything, know where the files and documents you need are. Break down your diary and working day – keep a clear desk.

Digitizing your files means that your entire business can digitize it all. People waste a lot of time searching for paper, and that simply doesn’t happen with computer-based databases. Get everything you need locked down onto computers and eliminate paper from the workplace. If documents no longer serve business needs or are simply not relevant, erase them.

Take control of your money in the business and ensure the right people are working with you. Tax advisors and accountants should not be appointed on the eve of the tax return deadline. Keep them in contact on a monthly basis. Ensure your business is structured correctly and the assets of the business are both managed and protected.

You can keep your digitization policies going by removing paper invoices from your workplace. Invoice online and digitally. Keep your ledgers based online with services like Freshbooks and Quickbooks or Mint. This can automate your finances by linking to your bank accounts. This keeps it all organized.

It doesn’t stop with money, though – your customer interactions can be organized. Keep track of shipping and keep on eye on ordering trends. Be proactive and notice times when your customers are ordering more. Take charge of your logistics and deliveries with companies like JetEx Logistics so that you can consolidate on deliveries. Instead of waiting around for things to happen, spot trends that will enable you to be proactive.

It’s just like that – business organization is about setting your business up to deal with things before they happen. Being proactive is the key to success, but you can only do that if you and your business are organized. Don’t delay with this, start right now to position yourself for success.
