Meet Susan E. Docherty, one of the top women in the automotive industry who left the corporate world to join the global wellness revolution as the CEO of Canyon Ranch.
She spent almost three decades at General Motors where she held senior executive positions, including several vice president roles, both in the United States and overseas. Among her many achievements with luxury automotive brands are launching award-winning vehicles such as the Chevrolet C7 Corvette and game-changing electric Volt, and conceiving, creating and launching the popular luxury Escalade sport utility vehicle.
She became the first female in the company’s 100-year history to hold a global corporate officer title; Vice President of Sales.
It was the “pioneering spirit and vision” of Canyon Ranch that drew her to the organization. “With the support of my very talented team, I want to ensure that this cherished and respected brand not only endures, but thrives and evolves, impacting the physical, mental and spiritual lives of new audiences domestically and globally.”
During her esteemed tenure with Canyon Ranch thus far, Docherty has guided the company into its next chapter of growth, with milestones including the brand’s first international foray, as well as the launch of the brand’s 22th At Sea offering across four renowned cruise lines—Regent Seven Seas, Oceania, Cunard and Celebrity. A halo ship for the brand extension is the Regent Seven Seas Explorer – whose unveiling set a new standard for luxury ships with the first ever in-room Canyon Ranch spa suite, sprawling nearly 5,000-square-feet.
Realizing the growing desire for wellness living, Docherty has also spearheaded development of the Residences at Bellefontaine, 19 sophisticated condominiums nestled in the Berkshires at the Massachusetts wellspring resort.
Since she joined the Ranch, Docherty has helped initiate new management expertise and the elevated hospitality experience. Thomas Klein was brought in as President and Chief Operating Officer. Docherty, alongside her recently expanded leadership team, will spearhead many upcoming developments to carry on the company’s mission of integrative wellness, inspiration and innovation.
Docherty earned her Master of Science degree in Management from Stanford University as a Distinguished Sloan Fellow, as well Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Windsor. She is on the board of directors of The Brink’s Company and serves as a member of both the Compensation & Benefits and Finance & Strategy committees.
