A lot of people aren’t entirely confident with the way they look. The word “makeover” sometimes gets thrown about here. But is always sounds a little extreme, doesn’t it? Makeover? But our opinion on it can change quite drastically the second someone else says something about our appearance we don’t want to hear.
The first thing you should do is ask yourself how you feel. Disregard what someone else said for a moment. Let’s say they didn’t like the shirt you were wearing. Well, do you? If yes, then ignore them. Maybe they didn’t like your hair. Do you like your hair? It’s your appearance, and you shouldn’t let what others think dictate it. But if you have decided you want to change things up a bit, consider these changes before taking it further.
The first thing people usually say is to try out a new hairstyle. This can be pretty clichéd advice. It’s nowhere near as easy as it sounds. Changing your hairstyle is a commitment. If you don’t like the haircut, you’re still stuck with it for however long it takes to grow out! You can’t just go into a store and look through a collection of hairstyles and try one on that looks good.
Or can you?
Here’s an odd suggestion. Try going into a costume shop, one with a large selection of wigs. See if there’s any style in there that looks good. For this, it’s better if you go to a more high-end costume place. Many places specialize in silly or horror-type wigs, which is probably not what you want on a daily basis. More sensible wigs are what you want.
You can try on short wigs, long wigs, and wigs with cool colors. It may not give a perfect picture, but the results could surprise you! Think you’d look awful with a shorter hairdo? Looking at yourself wearing a short-haired wig may help you change your mind. A wig may also help you decide if you want to change the color of your hair. Maybe that burgundy one will really match your skin tone. Maybe going blonde wouldn’t look as silly as you may think.
Some people are very self-conscious about their glasses, though. People who wear glasses and feel unconfident about their appearance often consider this first. For what it’s worth? I think glasses look cool! (And no, I don’t wear glasses.) But if you’d prefer to get rid of them altogether, then you should look into contact lenses. You may have heard that these can be uncomfortable at first. But you can get brands specialized for comfort at a low cost.
Maybe you want to keep wearing glasses. Thing is, glasses aren’t just glasses. There is such a wide variety. There’s different frame styles and colors, as well as different lens shapes. Try heading to a glasses store and try out some new pairs.
The point here is that there are several things you could ‘sample’ before fully committing to a radical change. And if your search for a cool new change comes up empty, it’s possible you really don’t need to change anything about your appearance after all! Remember: what you’re happy with is most important.
