We’ve all been there – reintroducing ourselves to a client or colleague we’ve already met or accidentally re-asking a vendor to do the same project.
In Nora Ephron’s essay collection called I Remember Nothing, she writes, “On some level my life has been wasted on me. After all, if I can’t remember it, who can?”
The prospect of memory loss is scary, especially since women bear most of the burden when it comes to Alzheimer’s, through suffering themselves or caring for sick loved ones.
Luckily, there are new developments that may help prevent and fight against memory loss.
“The latest studies show medium chain triglycerides, a type of oil, can not only protect against Alzheimer’s but [potentially] reverse the dementia,” says Dr. Eva Cwynar, a Beverly Hills endocrinologist and metabolic medicine specialist.
Taking coconut oil supplements twice a day “appears to be one of the most effective sources of this triglyceride,” adds Dr. Cwynar. While not FDA approved, the Alzheimer’s Association recommends other supplements like ginkgo biloba and omega-3 fatty acids to help with memory.
To prevent memory hiccups, experts recommend studying a new language or instrument, varying normal routines like your breakfast or route to work and practicing memorization.
Plus, you can keep your mind sharp by regularly enjoying games like Sudoku, phone apps like Words with Friends and crossword puzzles.
