A career is different to a job. With a job you simply turn up to work every day with the sole purpose of earning some money and being able to come home. With a career however, you dedicate your life to something you enjoy and try your best to grow and develop in the role. Choosing the right career can be difficult, but if you are stuck in a rut there are things you can do.
Assess Yourself. The first thing you need to do when looking for a career is to assess your own skills and capability. You need to sit down one day and take a look at who you are, what skills you have and if you have any qualifications which could be used in a career. You can even take an online msw course or something else if you feel as if you need to brush up on your skills. Think about your personality and the type of job role you could see yourself thriving at.
Make a List. Everyone loves making lists, don’t they? When you start thinking about potential careers the easiest thing you can do is make a list of all of the career paths you would love to try out. You will then be able to go and tick off the ones which you think you can do and cross out any which require a lot more education than you currently have. You will then be able to start narrowing down your options until you have a few solid choices in front of you which you love.
Explore. Now that you have a few options which seems great, you need to go and give them some deeper research. Take some time to delve into the world of each career and see exactly what it is that you will spend your time doing. This may change your mind on what you initially thought you wanted to do. This is why it is so crucial to do this before jumping in right away.
Think Passion. The important thing you need to remember when you embark on a career is that it is something you will be doing for a long time, possibly the whole of your working life. Because of this it is incredibly important for you to take the time to think of what you really want. Don’t just pick a career because it is well paid or it seems like a practical choice, you need to pick something you feel passionate about. Even if it might seem like a crazy idea at first, it could be the best decision you ever make. For example if you want to look after animals abroad, it might seem far out of reach to start with, but if you just let yourself explore the idea it could be the ideal career for you, because you will be doing something you love, something which makes you happy every day, and something which you can continue to do throughout your life.
