If everything you’re seeking is seeking you, then it’s time to get clear on what you really want
I wrote a blog a few weeks ago where I unpacked the idea of creating a vision statement that guides your career like a North Star. After I finished the piece, I decided to craft my own vision statement, which is to become the world’s most sought after authority on brand creation and reinvention. Like any powerful vision statement, it reminds me of who I am and where I’m going. When I say, “sought after” I am referring to the idea of being booked solid and not having to constantly pitch or audition for business.
To manifest this vision, I’ve hired experts – a business coach, social media expert and Internet marketing genius. With their help, I’ve attracted rebranding opportunities from a major movie studio, television network and toy company – all that align with my vision. This is beyond “The Secret.” This is about declaring something audacious and backing it up with a plan.
To get clear on what you really want to happen next in your career and create a plan to get there, take the following steps:
Step 1: Sculpt A Vision For Your Career
Write a crisp vision statement that celebrates your potential. Make sure it’s not laced with fear. It should be far-reaching and even a bit far-fetched. Make sure it inspires you to do your best.
Step 2: Make A Plan of Action
Figure out the steps you need to take to reach your goals. You may have to learn a new skill, software or language. You’ll have to get out and network, blog, Tweet or even relocate.
Step 3: Hire Experts To Support Your Vision
Surround yourself with specialists in the areas you’ll need to grow into. If you want to be a speaker, hire a speaking coach. If you want to write a book, find a good editor. You have to invest in yourself to succeed.
Step 4: Stay Open To Opportunity
Once you’ve set your intention, you’ll have to read the signposts along the way to uncover the people and projects that will take you to where you want to go. Watch out for detours.
Step 5: Manifest Your Desires
As you begin your journey, remember these Law of Attraction principals:
• Stay in the positive: your words, your dreams, and your thoughts have power.
• Think about your career with faith, hope, love and action.
• Don’t be afraid to believe you can have what you want and deserve.
When I was younger and unaware of these principals, I’d blame everyone and everything for what was going wrong in my career. I’d play victim. Now I look inside. As I become conscious of my own negative thinking, I turn it around by self-talking myself out of the cycle. In no time I’m attracting the right people and circumstances to manifest my vision.
