Office Party at Home?
Companies are already planning those annual office holiday parties, though petty cash is at an all-time low. In this economy, an increasingly popular option is the boss’ place in lieu of a pricey venue. Offering to host these upcoming celebrations at your house will win you points at work, even if you’ve neglected your living space.
PINK found some ways to spruce up your home for the upcoming holidays (and impress your coworkers) without dipping into your gift-giving budget:
Drapes add color and a dash of sophistication. Since about one-third of heating and cooling costs are from windows, some curtains now come with interlining to block cold air and conceal warmth in your home. Martha Stewart Living offers classic solids or stylish patterns for under $25 in lengths of 95 inches or 108 inches that can be purchased online at The Home Depot.
Room accents show your sense of style and can double as conversation-starters. Options include a decorative globe or a contemporary lamp, but you can go bolder with birdcage planters from Iron Accents or abstract wall art from stores like Walmart (which often looks pricier than what you paid).
Mirrors are the best (and cheapest) way to instantly make a room look bigger. You can coordinate with your room’s existing theme by going with a style that is detailed and elegant or classic and basic available from Martha Stewart Living at The Home Depot. Staggering several side-by-side will open the space while giving walls a modern twist.
