I’m in ballet class, and the instructor tells the ballerinas to do this so that the movements are fluid.
The same goes in Muay Thai kickboxing… “If you don’t do this, you won’t be able to move quickly.”
And you’ve probably had people tell you this too.
After all, we all have stress, workplace issues, tight deadlines, and more.
What is this simple thing that we often forget to do?
And if you are an overachieving entrepreneur and business owner like me, it can be irritating when someone tells you to slow down and take a breath.
What? And stop all of the things I have going on right now?!!
But, this is good advice I’ve had to to learn over time.
Why?
Breathing works.
Deep breaths not only keep you alive, but they free up your mind and body to work at their best.
In fact, research by The American Institute of Stress indicates that breathing will help you with “reconnecting your body and mind and stopping the stress response.”
And according to Harvard Health Publications, “Deep abdominal breathing encourages full oxygen exchange — that is, the beneficial trade of incoming oxygen for outgoing carbon dioxide. Not surprisingly, it can slow the heartbeat and lower or stabilize blood pressure.”
And we all know that it can be much easier to develop new ideas, deal with negative situations, manage difficult types of personalities, and more when we’re calm.
In fact, I’ve found that deep breathing can even help your content marketing.
How?
It forces you to review things more carefully.
Whether you like it or not, when you slow down and take a breath, you are more likely to:
And breathing makes you focus on what really matters to your prospect.
For example, before you rush into a copywriting project, take a deep breathe and think about your prospect.
Ask yourself some questions like:
When you stop to think about what you’re doing, you can provide more pertinent information to your customers… and discover new ways to do so while saving time and money.
In addition, breathing can enhance the rhythm of your content so it’s more reader friendly.
When you write copy, use short sentences and paragraphs. Include appropriate sub-titles and break up ideas into small sections so they are easy to understand and read.
Once finished, read your content aloud.
Can you take a breath between sentences and really comprehend what you’re saying?
If not, your readers won’t be able to either!
Take a Breath and See the Results.
It can be challenging, but try to stop and focus on your breathing throughout the day.
Use these moments to think about what you’re doing and how you can add “breath” to your copywriting and content marketing activities too.
Let me know what happens.
You may discover that some deep breaths can help you calm down, finish more work and see better results overall.
Are you ready? Start with a big, deep breath right now….
