PINK Positive!

A positive and healthy outlook on life isn’t always the easiest thing to pull off. It is easy to see the glass half empty or the fine cracks threatening a positive outcome. I recently watched a segment on breast cancer survivors on the Wendy Williams Show.  A select few were given make-overs to celebrate their perseverance and recovery.

I thought about the courage and strength it must take to face such a disease, deal with all of the treatments and aftermath and still stand strong. The difference for these women is often their ability to have a positive outlook and think on the bright side. Many times in life we face overwhelming odds but it’s when the chips are down that we find an inner strength and resilience we didn’t even know we had. Sometimes, it’s just changing the way we think.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Show your support by donating to the cause, walking or running a race, sharing information online or just by wearing pink!

The CDC reports outside of other skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, no matter your race or ethnicity. It is also the most common cause of death from cancer among Hispanic women and the second most common cause of death from cancer among white, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women.  These statistics should be motivation to do what you can help find a cure.

The most basic thing you can do is arm yourself with information and routinely conduct a self breast exam. Get more info HERE.

Knowledge is power and the more awareness we can promote for early detection, the better. Take care of your body, take care your mind and replenish from the week. Try happy and positive thoughts as often as possible. And remember, the glass is always half full.

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” Maya Angelou
