Should You Hire Your Soulmate?

eHarmony says, “Yes.”

The online matchmaking platform will soon be entering the job search arena using their one-on-one matching approach.

“We are still in phase one of this process. A lot of decisions are still being made, but we hope to launch by the end of the year,” eHarmony VP of Customer Experience Grant Langston tells Little PINK Book.

“The idea is that this service will be helpful to everyone. Companies that hire a large number of people experience tremendous amount of turnover which is largely a result of the employees not feeling compatible with the company culture. When it comes to marriage, turnover is known as divorce,” Langston explains.

“Essentially the same principles are applied to matches between job seekers and employers.”

Instead of traditional employee-to-company job listings, the company hopes to pair people based on quantifiable rather than “superficial traits.”

By only matching job seekers with companies that are a cultural compatibility match, eHarmony hopes to take job searching to the next level.

A recent study by Lauren Rivera of the Kellogg School of Management revealed hiring managers were more likely to hire individuals who they felt they could connect with on a personal level – potential buddies. Her research found that “cultural fit” was one of the most important aspects of hiring.

Of the 120 professionals from top-tier firms surveyed, cultural fit ranked among the top three criteria – surpassing analytical and communications skills.

Interviewers tend to prefer, and will even make exceptions for, interviewees they feel resemble themselves, Rivera explained.

Looks like eHarmony may be onto something.
