Winter fashion is all about colors and styles that flatter everyone.
The good news? They’re work-appropriate.
Melanie Pace, wardrobe stylist and fashion consultant, offers advice on winter’s work-worthy styles.
Jewel tones are popular, including navy, mixed greens, oxblood red, teal, Bordeaux and mustard yellow.
Next, wear the pants! Whether it’s denim, slacks, or a higher hem in the waist, Pace says select pants with a unique print or detail. Because they’re so popular, pick several pairs that you feel amazing in and that coordinate with blouses and jackets in your closet.
For a feminine, flattering piece, opt for peplum. “Add a cropped jacket to a jewel-toned peplum dress and wear simple accessories,” says Pace.
If you do it right, you can wear leather to the office. Wear one piece at a time with an appropriate hemline. “Try a tailored leather jacket or a leather pencil skirt,” advises Pace. “Avoid lots of zippered details or overly embellished leather.”
In a casual workplace, oversized knits and printed sweaters are comfy and stylish. Wear these with a wedge or taller heel to dress it up, and “something tight-fitting on the bottom so you don’t look like you just rolled out of bed,” recommends Pace.
Other hot styles for cold weather include all black, and embellished fabrics such as brocade and beaded details.
On a budget? “Don’t invest in trends. Stick with what you look best in,” recommends Pace. “Play it up with the season’s complimenting colors.” For example, pair a faux leather piece or timeless suit with inexpensive trendy accessories.
