Nearly 62 percent of Americans will make New Year’s resolutions. But according to a University of Scranton study, only 8 percent will be successful in achieving just one of them.
Perhaps, we’re going about this thing the wrong way.
Maybe we should be taking items off of our endless to-do list instead of adding more.
So, why not flip the switch this year and start crossing things off.
We asked eight top women what they won’t be doing in 2013. It looks like they’ve been talking to our latest top woman Sarabeth Levine, a passionate chef who recently took her $40 million restaurant business global. (Read the exclusive interview!)
What won’t these women do?
“I won’t give all my time away to my job,” declares Jackie Parker, President, Newell Rubbermaid Foundation.
“I will not continue to live and work without setting boundaries … Being recently married, I know how important being in love is and dedicating the time to my husband, family and friends,” says Arlene Warshaw-Gould, Human Resources Director, Merck & Co.
“I won’t reschedule ‘me time’; to read an article or white paper to enhance my own personal and professional development. In 2012 I used that time to return phone calls or respond to emails. Enough!” Victoria Martin, Director of Diversity & Inclusion, AIG.
“I won’t try to do everything myself!” contends Audra Dial, Partner, Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP.
“I will not apologize for bringing emotions into the workplace. When you check your heart at the door, you lose your capacity for greatness,” insists Lisa Earle McLeod author of Selling with Noble Purpose.
“I will not spend all day on my laptop and iPhone. I will take one hour every working day away from technology,” Danica Kombol, Co-founder, Everywhere, Social Media avows.
“[I won’t] assume that people can read my mind. So, I won’t forget to ask for what I want and need – personally and professionally,” asserts Dalila Wilson-Scott, CFO and COO, Global Philanthropy, JPMorgan Chase & Co.
“I won’t commit to any diets,” declares Rebecca Messina, VP Global Marketing Capability & Integration, The Coca-Cola Company.
Cheers to reversing resolutions!
