A Guide to Starting Your Own Flower Delivery Business

If you’re thinking of starting your own business, you have many options. However, if one of your skills is arranging flowers and you feel passionate about them, you could start your own flower delivery business. In this industry, you’ll get to work with all kinds of beautiful flowers and put them together in a variety of arrangements. Sound good to you? Here’s a guide to starting your own flower delivery business:

Find the Perfect Location
The first thing you need to do if you’re serious about starting your own fresh flowers delivery company is to find the perfect location. Ideally you should find somewhere that doesn’t have much competition nearby. It shouldn’t be in the middle of nowhere either. Make sure it could get a decent amount of foot traffic – this could make up half of your business!

Practice Your Flower Arrangement Skills
Making sure your flower arrangement skills are up to scratch is very important. You should send out the highest quality bouquets to get return customers and a great word of mouth reputation.

Get All of the Appropriate Licenses and Permits
Depending on where you are, you’ll need different licenses and permits in order to do business. I can’t tell you what these will be exactly, so you’ll need to do some research based on your local area.

Meet With an Accountant
An accountant will be able to help you with all of your tax accounts and give you some advice on how to keep your books. You can’t and shouldn’t start a business without the help of a qualified, reputable accountant.

Get an Insurance Quote
You’ll need a suitable insurance quote to protect your business, your stock, and even your delivery vehicles. You may even need insurance to protect your clients. Call up an insurance company to get a quote.

Get a Business Phone
Calling people off your mobile won’t look very professional. You need a line that your clients feel comfortable calling, and something that looks professional when you call them.

Sort Out Marketing Materials
Marketing materials are essential for spreading the word of your business. For example, business cards and flyers should go without saying. Hand your cards out to everybody you meet, and ask nicely if you can keep flyers in other shops in the area. You could even do a flyer drop when you deliver flyers through letterboxes yourself. I highly recommend getting branded marketing materials like pens and sticky notes too. People always use these, and when they do they’ll think of your business!

Think About Advertising Techniques
There are plenty of effective advertising techniques you can use. You could advertise on the TV, radio, and in the paper. You could advertise online using PPC. You could even advertise by setting up multiple social media accounts! Social media is very effective, as millions of people use it each day. Try it and see!

There you have it; a guide to starting your own flower delivery business. Of course you’ll need plenty of capital behind you to get started, but that goes without saying. Good luck!
