When you have an inkjet printer, you may have been very pleased with the retail price of the machine, as they are famously cheap – much cheaper than many laser printers – but you’ll be wincing at the cost of keeping them in ink. Fact. Ink is incredibly expensive; one of the most expensive substances on earth, actually.
Not only is ink expensive, but the amount of it in the reservoirs of modern cartridges has dropped sharply. Nowadays, when you buy an XL cartridge, you’re getting the same amount you could have got a few years back in a regular-sized one! And the price has gone up!
Want to save money?
By now you might not be feeling the same loyalty to your cartridge manufacturer as you were a few minutes ago, which is why it’s a good time to think about compatibles. You could do worse than to try cartridgepeople.com for cheap ink cartridges.
Compatibles were once seen as a dangerous alternative to OEM cartridges; you’d save a ton of money but you’d lose your printer, have ink spilled all over your pages, you’d grow two heads because the ink was toxic waste… This wasn’t the case, though, and it still certainly isn’t.
Why compatibles are cheaper than OEM cartridges. The big printer manufacturers – Dell, HP, Epson and the rest – spend a lot of time and money on research and development on inks and cartridges to make their products more efficient and unique. They all need, therefore, to recoup that money somehow, so most companies sell their printers as loss leaders because they know that once someone has their printer, they’ll feel tied in to buying OEM ink. Forever. Expensively.
Third-party manufacturers – the guys who make compatibles – make cartridges and inks that are copies of the OEM cases and formulations. However, they don’t have the same R&D overheads as the big companies, so they can make inks and cartridges way more cheaply than the big guys, and pass their savings onto customers. It’s a win-win situation.
In some ways, it’s fair enough for the big companies to want to turn a decent profit after investing all that time and money, but when you remember that the amount of ink you’re getting has fallen drastically, your goodwill may fade.
Come over to the compatible side… Some compatibles are cheaper than others, but whichever one you buy, you’ll be making a significant saving, there’s no doubt about that. You may have concerns about the safety of the cartridge, but remember, these third-party companies want to sell decent products and they’re copying what the major companies do. And they’re good at it.
Furthermore, if you buy your compatible inks from a reputable online seller, you’ll be covered by a no-quibble guarantee, as well as by the warranty on your printer (don’t let your manufacturer tell you otherwise).
When you think about it, compatible inks are the way to go if you need to save money on your printer inks. Around 35 percent of regular ink buyers choose compatibles over OEM inks, and while this is a minority, it’s a sizeable minority. They can’t all be wrong, right?
