Always dreamed of giving your boss the old “You’re fired!” treatment a la Donald Trump?
A recent survey shows job satisfaction and engagement in the U.S. continues to be at an all-time low. More than half of Americans are unhappy with their current work situation.
But look on the bright side: “This can be the year to walk away from a job you hate and finally start sharing your passions and gifts with the world,” says Tommi Wolfe, founder of The Startup Expert.
If you’re considering entrepreneurship, Wolfe says there are several things to consider.
First, you’ve got to “get real with yourself” by finding out what you feel you were
put on the planet to do.
Next, determine if you can afford to quit. “Building a six-figure business can be done in under a year if you work smart,” explains Wolfe. “You need to do the math and plan to be able to support yourself for six months to a year.”
After you’ve handed in your resignation, it’s time to get the right planning and finance tools. This is “the most important thing you will ever do to get your business off the ground.” Sources to pull from include books, a mentor or a coach.
Lastly, being an entrepreneur can be isolating. Wolfe says it’s vital to have support so you can stay “motivated, positive and take sensible and sustained action.”
