To Waist or Not to Waist

Once again, you’re standing in your closet trying to figure out if you’re brave enough to try on that latest it piece you bought last week. Sure, high waist pants might look good on a runway model, but what about the everyday professional woman and her many beautiful shapes and sizes? Worried about falling flat with the new trend?

Here are five ways to make the high waist pant work for you:

Look for a pair that falls at the natural waist line to create balance. To find your natural waistline: Bend to one side, place your finger in the crease of that bend, and measure the circumference of your waist from that point.

If you’re worried about “problem” areas around your stomach, try investing in shapewear, like the In-Power Super High Footless Shaper by Spanx or the Madison by Hourglass Angel to smooth out your silhouette.

Next, find the leg-style that looks best for your height. Generally, high waist pants elongate the appearance of the leg. However, for women of shorter statue, a high waist trouser or skinny legged pant makes the body appear longer. Most women of taller statue can wear both trousers – skinny and wide-leg.

If you’re going to wear a high-waist pant, don’t cover up the style! Try a fitted top that you can tuck in or an open cardigan. It’ll make your waist appear smaller.
