In the Trenches

We know there have been days when you just wanted to throw on your trench coat and walk out the door. If you did, you’d be right in line with one of fall’s hottest garments. So, what’s the best way to wear your trench to the office?

Building on last season’s military trend, the trench coat is a great cross-seasonal piece, says designer and design critic Hilton Hollis. “For professional women, it’s important not to take the trend so literally. A trench coat in the traditional khaki or hunter green with epaulettes or brass buttons is a longevity piece that will keep you looking trend-aware.”

Here are a few ways to wear the trench coat:

Worried about looking too tough? “Mixing the military trend with feminine details like ruffles and soft palettes” like yellow or pink tone down the edginess.

These Burberry coats are celeb favorites, but if you’re a beauty on a budget (and who isn’t these days?) here are some more affordable versions from London Fog and Michael Kors.

Not sure what to pair it with? Try a button-down dress shirt, some straight leg slacks and pumps. Or throw on your favorite little black dress and you’re ready to go.

Bonus PINK Link: Now that you’ve got a great transitional piece, here’s how take your wardrobe from office to elliptical.
