It’€™s Time to Celebrate

In our quest to constantly accomplish more, it’s easy to let little (and big) victories slip by with barely an acknowledgement.

But taking time to celebrate success at work is a great way to stay motivated.

And women, like record-breaking retired golfer-turned-entrepreneur Annika Sörenstam, have done plenty to deserve it.

“If I won a tournament Sunday, I went on to the next one Monday,” Sörenstam tells Little PINK Book. “I didn’t really smell the roses along the way because my schedule was so hectic.”

While she wasn’t inclined to throw a party every time she came out on top, Sörenstam says taking the time to acknowledge these successes inspired her to keep going.

Experts say companies can encourage employees to recognize successes by applause, throwing company picnics, observing Staff Appreciation Day and offering perks like “employee of the month.”

Denise Duffield-Thomas, also known as Ms. Career Girl, offers a list of little ways to pat yourself on the back, like visiting a personal shopper, getting a new professional head shot and inviting girlfriends out for dinner.

“It’s fun to share accomplishments with friends and family,” Sörenstam adds. “There were times I should have enjoyed that moment and paid a little more attention.”

Still not convinced it’s worth taking time to rejoice? When the months become years and the years become decades – you’ll probably be glad you stopped to smell the roses.
