Just because you’re anchored to your office on this glorious sunny day doesn’t mean you can’t feel carefree and summery. We know. It’s hard to feel free when your schedule is booked for the day and you’re stuck inside. Need help channeling spring? A change of outfit might change your outlook.
“The nautical fashion concept is a great way to add a spring flare to the sometimes stuffy business suit,” says Robanne Schulman, celebrity stylist and owner of Plaid Monkey. “The trick to wearing stripes is getting to know your body shape.” She suggests placing stripes against the smallest portion of your body – this way, you accentuate your curves by pulling the eye exactly where you want it.
Plus, nautical fashion incorporates themes you can mix in with your professional attire. “Accessories like anchor earrings and khaki jackets are subtle ways to pull off the nautical look,” suggests Schulman.
Got a chance to bust out of the office and lounge on the beach? One piece swimsuits with wide block stripes can make round thighs look slimmer.
Don’t want to go overboard with the theme? Try accessories like scarves, necklaces and handbags to exude nautical chic. We like these: Kate Spade, Accessorize, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Tired of the nautical stripes? “Polka dots give a nod to the nautical trend without widening your body,” suggests Schulman.
