On average, retailer’s price clothing at twice the amount paid wholesale. For coveted designer labels – it’s even higher at 300 percent.
So, how can women look great at work without paying twice what the look is worth?
Jessica Gold, co-founder and CEO of the fashion-tech startup, Dobbin Clothing came up with a solution. She’s trimming the supply chain in an effort to make designer-quality clothing more affordable.
“Dobbin prides itself on providing the same quality clothing as other high-end brands while keeping everything under $200.”
“Dobbin prides itself on providing the same quality clothing as other high-end brands while keeping everything under $200,” Gold tells PINK.
And, how much can a polished look help your career? A lot.
But, designing and manufacturing a clothing line is no easy feat – especially for a self-funded company.
“The process of making clothes is extremely laborious,” Gold admits. The numerous steps involved came as a surprise to her and co-founder Catherine Doyle.
By selling their clothing exclusively online and manufacturing their products only in New York City, Dobbin is able to avoid the overhead other companies have – such as multiple distribution channels – which eliminates the need for additional retail markup.
They called it “Dobbin” since the word is slang for workhorse!
