If you run a business online, from home or from premises, then you can’t not be aware of SEO as a concept. The chances are that you use it to a greater or lesser extent. Whatever method you use to create and run a site, there will be some optimization in there one way or another. But if there is one thing that we humans as a species keep forgetting, it is that innovation and progress are not things that happen once. They continue and develop.
This is important, because it gets to the bottom of why businesses often get caught out with their marketing strategies. It is unrealistic for a business owner these days to be unaware of the importance of digital marketing. We all know it’s important to have an online presence. We’re all aware that we need to have a social media side to things. But it’s not enough to be aware of these things as a basic concept.
Everything Changes, Including Change
It’s not hard to imagine someone getting hold of the idea of SEO and social marketing, and thinking: “I’ve got to get me some of that”. After a bit of reading, or hiring someone to do it, they then think: “OK, that’s that done”, and don’t think about it again. Having made a change, they think that it’s enough. But the truth is that having an SEO strategy in place is a start. It’s not an end in itself.
There Is A Future After The Future
Your SEO strategy needs to develop with the times, just as SEO in and of itself was a development. Improving and succeeding are ongoing processes. You don’t need to be messing with things and changing them every day, but you do need to audit what you are doing. Once or twice a year may well be enough, because the key is that you’re continuing to do what’s working, and dropping what isn’t.
A Second Pair Of Eyes Is Essential
It’s easy to look at a process that you have put in place and think: “That’s all still working”. The human brain can short-circuit into seeing what it expects to see. A second pair of eyes to look at things afresh is important, in SEO as in anything. Experts along the lines of Riveronline.com can look into what you have in place, see if it is indeed working and suggest improvements.
Don’t See Finish Lines, See Road Signs
In running a business, it is so tempting to see success as an end goal. For some of us, the idea of needing to maintain it seems like an endless race, but you need to know what you want. If you’re in a business that you enjoy, then there is a lot you can delegate to the right people and still enjoy the trappings of success. But the end stage in business is retirement – and if you’re not ready for that, be prepared to keep improving.
You don’t need to be an expert in SEO to run a business online. You just need to be an expert in success. Knowing how to keep it going is the key.
