My Business

Why Does My Startup Need Personality?

You may not have thought of your business as something which has a personality. But the character that your business puts across is extremely important. It can work as a great marketing tool. A great recruitment tool. A great design tool. It can boost the power of your business, and with very little immediate cost.

Here’s why having an attractive personality for your startup is so important.

Customer loyalty. Consumers are exactly what makes businesses profitable and powerful. Despite this, popular opinion seems to be that businesses are faceless. Heartless, willing to crush anything and anyone in their pursuit of the almighty dollar. Strange little paradox, that. But when people come across a company they really like, they tend to remain very loyal to it. Remember: people are attracted to big, warm, friendly personalities. Show them that, and your customers are more likely to keep coming back.

You want happy employees, right? Employees often feel the same way as the customers, here. Even though they work for a given company, they won’t feel particularly attached to it. They may even hate the company they work for! As long as they do the job, I guess it doesn’t matter. Right? Wrong. That mindset is going to result in some very unhappy employees. And unhappy employees are bad for business. Employees will be much more satisfied if they work for a company that actually has a strong personality.

You want more employees, right? When it comes to recruiting new employees, you want people who will bring passion to your business. And it’s much easier to get people to bring passion – or even feel it in the first place – if you’re not another heartless corporation. People like the idea of working for a company that has a good personality. This ties strongly into the last section. If your employees are content, then you’ll get more people who want to work for your company. They want to be happy, too!

An increase in brand recognition. You may think that brand recognition lies only in how a product looks, or in the logos of your service. That’s true to an extent. What you need to realize is that the personality of your business can help shape this brand look. Take a look at the Innocent smoothie brand. Their sense of humor is instantly recognizable, setting them apart from competitors. The personality of your business can seep into everything. The adverts you run online. The design of your uniform from uniform services. The look of your storefront.

The positive domino effect. Let’s imagine that you’ve succeeded here. Your startup is flowing with personality. People love your business not just for its products, but for its values and sense of character. Your business isn’t just a cold, faceless thing. It cares about the world around it. And that’s giving you more customer loyalty and more sales. If other companies see that, then they might take a leaf out of your book. All of a sudden, your actions have resulted in a more caring business world.
