Recently, a client who was headed for a 2 week trip to Asia asked me if I have any contacts there. She would be visiting 4 major cities. Personally, I had none, but I was able to tap colleagues in my Leading Women network and pass on recommendations from our members.
Then, it occurred to me to tap the resources of 85 Broads – probably the largest online global network of women. As a member, I was able to find chapters in Shanghai, Mumbai and Tokyo and passed along to my client the names of the women who head up the chapters. I’m sure they’ll give her a warm response and all the help they can. (Thank you Janet Hanson founder of 85 Broads.)
Which online networks do you belong to? In this era of Facebook’s relentless drive to monetize your information and the related privacy concerns, I consider 85 Broads a must-join resource. In addition to connecting you with tens of thousands of women worldwide, they offer great programming to enhance your career.
Followers know that I also recommend LinkedIn. If you haven’t read it already, check out my earlier post on 7 Ways to Use LinkedIn.
