Could You Use Custom Made Signs

Signage is something that is all around us, yet we rarely give any thought to it. It helps us to find our way, keeps us safe, and is far more useful and necessary than you think. Once you start looking, you will notice signs everywhere.

In the workplace… In the workplace, they play a big role in keeping the workforce organised, and safe. They warn of potential hazards, and help to remind staff to behave in a certain way in specified areas. For example, reminding your workers to wear ear protection in noisy area. Using good signage helps business owners to prove to the authorities, and regulators, that they take the safety of their workers seriously, and that they are complying with the law.

If you are a business owner, your local safety officer will tell you what type of signage you need to comply with the law. In places like America the fonts, symbols, colors and size of the signs are also important. There the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) set these standards. They have done a lot of research into what designs draw people’s attention, and get the message across. The colors used in OSHA signs are designed to be legible for people with sight conditions, such as color blindness, and to draw the attention of everyone. You can read more about their standards here.

In public places… Some are so important that they are required in commercial and public buildings, by law. For example, fire exit signs, and directional signs in place like hospitals where people need to find departments like the A&E quickly.

In the home… People even use them in their homes. Studies show that ‘beware of the dog’ and alarm or CCTV signs significantly reduce your chances of being targeted by burglars. Highlighting potential hazards in the home also helps you to keep your family, and visitors, safe.

Sourcing the signs you need… As you can see signs are an essential element of modern life, but it is important to buy the right ones for the jobs. Whether you are business owner looking for a multilingual no smoking sign for the break room or a homeowner who wants a no hawkers sign, you need to buy a good quality product.

It has to be easily legible, and be built to last. If the sign is going to be hung outside, it has to be made to withstand exposure to the elements.

Easy to read… Most importantly, any sign you choose has to get the message across in a fast and clear way. You want anyone who glances at it to understand within seconds what you are trying to tell them.

Often you can find exactly what you want, online. However, sometimes you need something a little bit different.

Fortunately, custom-made signs, including bilingual models are far easier for you to get your hands on than they used to be. The best signage firms now offer this service, and the availability of digital printers means that they are not even that expensive.
