Veterans, Boost Your Post-Military Career

For people who are leaving a military career, it can be difficult to build a new career as a veteran. Indeed, it’s not uncommon for a lot of veterans to believe that their skills are worthless out of a military context. However, Accenture, a leading recruiting firm believes that veterans have unique qualities that are precious in the workplace. From knowing the importance of teamwork to knowing how to lead a team, you could bring vital elements to your future companies. But before you can start a new career, you need to work on building a business-friendly resume.

Law enforcement and social justice. Somehow veterans and law enforcement careers are a match made in heaven. Your experience on the field is invaluable when it comes to understand people’s behavior and to identify threats. To maximize your chances, you might be interested in making your skill set more relevant to your new career with a masters in public safety for instance. This can help you to understand how your posture and communication can help containing public issues. Whether you choose to be active in the streets or to remain a key figure of social justice distribution, it’s a matter of preferences. Ultimately, knowing what to say to help people calm down is a great addition to your military experience.

Interpreter and translator. If you’ve been active in foreign countries, it’s likely that you’ve picked up the lingo after a while. Currently, the most popular languages in the business place are Mandarin, Arabic, Spanish, German, and even Russian. If you can speak any of these languages, you can expect your profile to be noticed rapidly in a pile of resumes. More importantly, you can choose to offer your skills as a simple business interpreter or translator, where you can work with firms. But you can also use your skills to promote peace by supporting democratic committees and international institutions. You may want to pass a language test to certify of your skills before referring it on your resume, though.

The IT world wants you. It’s no surprise that Microsoft has always believed in veterans. With your sense of discipline and your meticulous approach, you have some of the most wanted skills in the tech industry. It’s precisely the experience of learning knowledge and persevering through the process that makes you the ideal candidates to develop IT skills and join a tech firm. Additionally, you’re also used to solve problems on the go, as it is often the case in a military career. Consequently, you won’t chicken out when faced with an inexplicable programming bug. Instead, your dedication to effective problem solving will guide you through it.

Create your own thing as an entrepreneur. Finally, with 73 percent of citizens expressing confidence in the military, you know you’re in a good position to become a trusted entrepreneur. In fact, veterans are among the best leaders in the US, as a result of teamwork experience in their military careers. Based on integrity and respect, your leadership will keep your team motivated and satisfied.
