After a grueling 12-hour day at the office, you feel as worn as your favorite pair of pumps. In lieu of late dinner plans with a good friend, you opt for an early bedtime before your morning presentation.
‘Maybe next week,’ you think.
With 60 to 80-hour workweeks becoming the norm, time spent over tapas and girl talk is often replaced by budgets and client meetings.
It’s a harsh reality.
As we grow and change in life, friendships become more difficult to maintain. And as women climb the corporate ladder, the time and energy needed to invest in friendships begins to diminish as responsibilities increase.
As a serial entrepreneur and business owner, Sabina Ptacin, CEO of ‘PRENEUR, admits that casual or “side” friendships will fall on the wayside, but dedicating time for your strong friendships is vital. It can even be beneficial to your career.
“Know when to say ‘yes’, to shut down your work brain and just have fun. Often great ideas come from these moments,” says Ptacin.
Priorities change with age, and some friendships will end. But Ptacin reminds career-focused women that key friendships are not impossible to sustain.
“The people who love you and you love, who value you and you value, they will be loyal friends on this journey with you.”
And we need them! After all those hours worked, promotions and achievements, there’s nothing better than celebrating with women who matter to you.
