Office perks: companies use them to boost employee morale and show appreciation. But when funds are tight, big bonuses may not be in the cards. How can you creatively show employees they’re valued without overspending?
“I don’t see perks as drawbacks. Of course there are expenses involved, but the benefit of a happy, motivated staff definitely outweighs them,” Joy Gendusa, founder of Postcard Mania, tells PINK.
When her company bounced back from a rough year in 2009, Gendusa thought the time was right to reward her staff. She offered them free yoga sessions, kickboxing classes, and one free chiropractor visit a month.
Simple changes around the office can go a long way. Try offering gourmet coffee, more casual days, better vending machine selections or even conference room lunches, experts say.
Gendusa adds that employees’ opinions could help avoid costly, unnecessary expenses, like paying for company parking when most of your team commutes.
While it’s the thought that counts, bosses who gave things like assembly-required chairs, expired snacks or awkward parties may have missed the mark. AllBusiness suggests creative perks employees are sure to appreciate, like professional massages, car washes and health club memberships.
