Do you currently run your own business? If so, good for you. You’re part of the millions of women who are now proud self-starters, smashing the gender stereotype of women in business. Owning and running your own business can be full of incredible rewards. You get to follow your dream, be autonomous over yourself and there are no annoying bosses to deal with! Of course, that’s not to say there’s no hard work involved. Around half of all small businesses fail within the first year, which is a daunting statistic for those just starting out. But, if you’re a natural born business brain, there’s no reason why your business can’t stand the test of time. One way many people are succeeding in business these days is by moving their office into their homes. Currently, you might commute to a rented office or already have a small team in a shared workspace. But here is why remote working could be the right thing for your company.
You’ll slash your overheads. Rent, lighting, printers, paper, pens… all things that you may not initially think about, but things that could be costing you a small fortune. For example, when buying a printer it isn’t just about the upfront cost. Maintenance, paper, and ink cartridges are all regular purchases you will need to make and this is what amounts to the cost of your overheads. By moving into a home office, you could be saving hundreds of dollars every month, simply by relying on things like your own heating and lighting. After all, we spend so much time at work in this day and age, that by having a separate office and home we are paying twice the amount of bills.
You can focus on other things. Working from home allows you to dedicate your time more efficiently. Of course, there are temptations around everywhere that will distract you – your fridge being one of them and Netflix being another. But think about the amount of time you spend being off focus in a regular office every day. Seems about the same doesn’t it? When you work from home, you can use your breaks to focus on other productive things. For example, you may want to make a little money on the side, especially if your business is a slow moving startup. Source some easy, legitimate ways to make money online if you need a little extra in your pocket. Or, maybe you have a love of crafts and art. Spending your lunch break painting or doing crochet can be very therapeutic and can set you up for a more productive afternoon.
It makes you an attractive prospect for employees. Remote working is more in demand than it’s ever been. More and more people are juggling multiple jobs and have busy personal lives too. For example, one of your employees may be a full time mother. Offering remote working to your employees opens up a lot of doors for both you and them, and you could end up with a greater pool of people to pick from.
