Workwear Ideas For When You Work From Home

Today, more and more of us are choosing to work from home. It’s convenient, it cuts travel costs, and it means we have more time to spend with our families and friends. When it comes to workwear for an office-based job or a role in retail, what you should be wearing is pretty black and white. However, when you work from home, getting your ‘workwear’ wardrobe right can be tricky.

The chances are when people find out you work from home; they presume you spend each day working in your pajamas. However, for most of us home workers, we choose to get dressed every day, even when we are working from our living rooms. There’s just something a little icky about working in your pajamas, don’t you think?

PJs aside, when it comes to home working what is the best option to work in?

Stick to smart-casual. You might be at home, but you’re still working. Don’t make the mistake of dressing too casually, or else you’ll end up feeling sloppy. Your best bet is to stick to smart-casual for work days so you feel like you’re at work. If you dress in lounge pants, for example, your mindset will be relaxed, not in work mode. There’s a fine line between smart casual and too casual; gym wear is always too casual. Jeans are always a good option as they’re ideal for achieving a range of smart casual looks. Black leggings can also be a good option, if teamed with the right top, that is. For a cute, casual look, black leggings and a knitted Superdry jumper or hoody is perfect. Or, tights and a cute dress can also work well.

Ensure you’re comfortable. The great thing about working from home is you can be comfortable. As we’ve mentioned above, that doesn’t mean dressing in lounge wear, but it does mean being comfortable. You still need to look presentable when you work from home, but you can still dress in a comfortable way. It’s just a case of getting the balance right between comfort and smartness. For instance, wearing a t-shirt dress over a pair of leggings is a perfect work from home outfit. It’s both comfortable and smart. However, wearing sweats and an oversized t-shirt is not.

Dress in a way that makes you feel good. When you work from home, it’s easy to get into the habit of dressing a little too comfortably. If you want to feel good about yourself, and what you do, it’s worth making an effort with how you dress. You’ll find that by dressing to impress, you’ll feel better about yourself. It’s not just about your clothes but also the other aspects of your presentation. Just like you would when going to an office, do your makeup and hair. Remember, it’s the little things that make all the difference.

There you have it, everything you need to know about dressing to impress when you work from home. Aim to dress in a way that’s smart and stylish but also comfortable, and you can’t go wrong.
