The classic button down – it’s a staple in most working women’s wardrobes. And if you’re anything like Sarah Jessica Parker’s character in I Don’t Know How She Does It, opening today, a gaping shirt is probably the last thing on your mind. Now, looking professional can be one less thing you have to worry about.
Business owner Rochelle Behrens decided to fix the problem by creating a shirt with buttons hidden on the inside to close the gaps.
“I was working in Washington as a lobbyist and was pinning my shirt from the inside,” Behrens tells PINK. “I looked around and saw other women who had the same problem.”
Behrens says she couldn’t help but address this issue – not just for herself, but
all women. “It’s a female empowerment issue – if you look good you feel good.” Behrens’s creation was named “a fashion must-have for 2011” by the Oprah Winfrey Show and has been featured in publications like People and The New York Times.
Lucky for us, Behrens has plans for growth. “Now that we have a solution we’d like to apply it to several items,” says Behrens, telling PINK she may be expanding her line to include proper-fitting cardigans and more.
Another way to eliminate gaping is with a wrap shirt. We like the tie waist of this one from JC Penney and the ruffle details of this Ryan Michael version.
