“Having been in and out prison myself, I know how many barriers there are to getting your life back together and keeping your children. I founded A New Way of Life Reentry Project because I wanted to have a place for women to bring their children. I started off with one house, now I have five.

“Advocacy was a natural next step. Women were suffering and I wanted to do something about it. So I attended the Foundation’s Women’s Policy Institute and gained the confidence and the tools to go to Sacramento and lobby for policies to improve the lives of formerly incarcerated women.

“I’ve discovered the Foundation and the Race, Gender and Human Rights Donor Circle to be wonderful partners in creating policies that help women to succeed.”
