A common mistake many small businesses make when trying to pursue the U.S. government is marketing to every federal agency. There are more than 60 federal agencies and hundreds of bureaus and departments, so it’s critical to target specific agencies instead of blindly casting the widest net. A recent survey from American Express OPEN looked at the business behaviors of small business procurement leaders – among them was being more thoughtful and selective in their bidding pursuits.

To help business owners identify what agencies they should be targeting, American Express OPEN and Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) are offering a free web tutorial on Wednesday, September 26. This educational webinar is part of the Give Me 5 program, a national program created by American Express OPEN and WIPP to help women business owners get a leg up on selling to the world’s largest customer: the U.S. government.

Give Me 5 Course Instructor Barbara English will equip business owners with the tools and methodologies to determine the right agencies to pursue for business success. Mastering the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS) will help participants understand what their top agencies buy, who they bought it from, when they bought it, and the procurement method used to buy it. This interactive session will leave participants with an understanding of who their top five federal agencies are.
