When you work from home, sitting in the lounge with the TV on isn’t ideal. It won’t feel like a proper work day and your productivity will be massively reduced. People that have a home office find that they work a lot more effectively. When you’re working at a company, they decide on the office and you turn up every day and work there, you don’t have too much so over it. However, when you’re creating your own home office, all of the decisions are up to you. You could always throw a desk and a computer in the spare room and call it a day, but that’s a wasted opportunity. You can do literally anything you like in your home office, so why not get a bit more creative? If you’re struggling for some inspiration, these are some of the most innovative home office ideas ever.
The Office Pod
The office pod company claim to be changing the way that people work from home, and they’re right. If you’ve got enough space in the backyard, you can get a fully functioning office pod installed. They don’t take up a huge amount of room so most people can fit them in somewhere. Sizes range from 1m squared all the way up to 7m squared. This is ideal for anybody that doesn’t have space in the house but wants a dedicated working area. The pods can be customized on order so you can get the exact office that you want. It’s easy to put up and take down so you can even move it about if you fancy a change of scenery. The only downside is that they’re going to cost you around £2000 for a mid sized office so it’s an investment that you should maybe consider later in your career.
The Outside Office
One of the biggest problems that people have with offices is spending all of their time inside. There are lots of health issues caused by being stuck inside all day. It’s also been proven that sunlight can improve health and increase productivity so having an outside office can be very beneficial to your business. It’ll be a fairly cheap office to get up and running, all you need to start with is good computer desks, a bit of decking, and some kind of covering if you’re planning to use it all year round. The placement of your outside office is important because you’ll need to be in a fairly bright area, but you don’t want to be in direct sunlight all day. You also need to think about how close you are to things that you can’t keep outside, like the printer and the wifi router. Beyond that, you’re free to do what you like.
The Closet Office
If you haven’t got a spare room in the house to put your office in, and the garden doesn’t seem like your thing either, there is a solution. Utilizing small spaces is a very popular trend at the moment, and you can take inspiration from it to create your very own closet office. The first thing you need to do is measure the closet and make sure that you have enough space to get a desk and a computer in there. Beyond that, decide if there’s anything else you want in there like filing cabinets or shelving. You may need to sacrifice some of that when it comes to building the office. Have an electrician come and put power sources in there, they’ll be able to advise you about whether it’s safe or not. Decorating it with vibrant colors is also important, otherwise, the space will end up feeling claustrophobic and dark which is not a good working environment for anybody. If possible, try to put a window or skylight in to get some natural light in there.
Renovate An Old Vehicle
This requires a lot of work, but it’s a cheaper and far cooler alternative to the office pod. One man managed to turn an old bus into a brilliant working office. This is just one idea, but there are plenty of cheap vehicles like this that you can refurbish and turn into an office. However, if you don’t have the know-how, get somebody a bit more experienced in to make sure it’s a professional job.
Any one of these home office ideas would be great, but if you really want to create the perfect office, you need to tailor it to your own personality. The possibilities are endless, so get creative.
