Diversity… A Beautiful Mosaic May 22, 2013Expert BlogsOff

Over the past year I have had the opportunity to meet so many different women in my life journey. Women from a variety of ethnicites and races but more importanly, women with diverse interests, visions for life, personalities, and thinking styles. I have found these opportunities not only meaningful but rewarding and affirming to the work that I do. As a author, life strategist and speaker one of my passions is meeting and connecting with women seeking their purpose and helping women who are unsure where to begin, discover their hero.

I recently experienced a 3 month long training focused on developing leadership skills. Throughout this experience I met women who were just like me in many ways although their skin color and race was much different. Over the past three months I was once more made aware of the importance of looking past the physical characteristics of another person and being open to the opportunity to really connect on a deeper level. When it’s all said and done we are all the same. We all have a beautiful soul that seeks to be heard, understood, validated and supported.

Diversity often leads us to think of race, ethnicity, gender, age, and or religion. There is so much more to that word. Diversity no matter how you define it is a beautiful mosaic that creates a sense of richness in the world. Everyone has a story; a story that should be heard, valued and respected. While I realize that women of different ethnicities face different challenges, in essence we as women have a common bond, “womanhood.” It is there that we must connect in order to fully understand the individual and cultural differences that make up that beautiful mosaic.
