Don’€™t Forget the Boss

National Boss’s Day is around the corner (October 16 to be precise), but that’s no excuse for gag presents or re-gifting last year’s Christmas cast-offs.

So, if you’re planning to wrap up a gift tie with a cartoon character on it, then please, STOP.

The day should be about tact and more importantly, gratitude for all the things your fantastic employer does.

“It’s a day to appreciate those who often go unrecognized while they’re busy managing things,” says Cori Curtis, marketing communications specialist at Baudville.com, a personalized gift company.

By making your present personal and sincere, you can’t lose, says Curtis.

Here are some options that are original, tasteful and thoughtful:
Consider personalized office items, like a coffee mug, things she can use professionally, like a leather portfolio, or a gift card to a favorite restaurant. Make it memorable with a hand-written note.

If you’re not sure where to start, Curtis advises: “Talk to your boss’ colleagues to get a feel for what they’d like best.”

But Curtis suggests steering clear of overspending and gifts that are overly personal, like clothes or household items.

And if you are the boss, the best way to recognize the gesture is with graciousness. “Say thank you, and pay it forward with recognition for your team. Also send thank you cards and keep the appreciation flowing,” says Curtis.
