Layovers, early check-ins, jet lag – you’re speaking the language of the traveling female professional.
For businesses, travel is lucrative. Studies show that for every dollar invested in corporate travel, revenues increase $12.50 on average.
But what is the actuality for women who live out of a suitcase more than 50 percent of the time?
Anisa Telwar, founder and president of global beauty accessory design and manufacturing company Anisa International, is married to a British architect, and splits her time between Atlanta and London.
And that’s just her personal life.
Telwar frequents Paris, New York and jets to China to check on manufacturing facilities.
Experts says extensive business travelers are prone to stress and often unable to find the off switch.
Telwar offers tips to her fellow travelers.
“Being in control of the itinerary is very empowering,” she says. “I do not push myself past what I know will work for my health and wellness.”
But, what happens when children are thrown into the mix?
Rita McGrath, a professor at Colombia Business School and renowned strategy expert, has been traveling since her kids were in booties.
What works for McGrath? She plans ahead and makes sure she has lots of support for her professional and personal lives.
She tries to, “be realistic. Clothing does not wash itself, meals don’t magically appear and kids don’t get picked up from play dates without a lot of organization.”
While it may be tough, McGrath recognizes the value of experience abroad.
“Without work in Madrid, Abu Dhabi and Japan, I wouldn’t have the vast knowledge and experiences I have today.”
