The idea of remote employment is not a new one. In fact, the number of people working from home regularly has increased over the past ten years thanks to useful tech innovations. However, for obvious reasons, more people have been forced into remote employment over the past few months. And such a transition can prove difficult –– particularly if you have to collaborate frequently with your colleagues to ensure positive business outcomes. On a very base level, remote collaborators need to have access to all of the same files, documents, and projects. Otherwise, professionals may end up working on the same task without ever realizing it. Or, worse, an important assignment could fall through the cracks. With this in mind, it’s crucial for remote teams to utilize a shared digital space to post their progress, assign tasks, and collaborate. Something as simple as sharing a Google drive folder may be adequate for some teams, while others may need a more robust platform, like Asana, for instance.
Stay Positive
The best professionals manage to stay positive and solutions-oriented even when things may look bleak. Keep in mind that miscommunications and slip ups are inevitable –– regardless of work setup. So when problems do arise, keep a positive attitude and look for ways to improve the situation. Casting blame or dwelling on a mistake won’t do anyone any good.

Soft skills like quality organization are vital to connecting with remote colleagues. As such, team leaders should always make it a point to follow up with their coworkers on particularly important issues.
