We’ve all been there – staring at the clock at 4 a.m. – stressing about tomorrow’s big presentation instead of getting adequate shut-eye.
You’re making mental to-do lists or silently reciting your speech. It’s not uncommon. Experts say insomnia occurs twice as often in women compared to men.
Wellness expert Dr. Maiysha Clairborne suggests female entrepreneurs in particular, don’t get enough sleep because they’re “always trying to get that last thing done.”
She says stopping points helps our minds transition into relaxation mode. So, how can women owners unwind?
“We have to set boundaries,” explains Clairborne, “like office hours, a reminder on our Smartphone that says ‘stop working!’ or even whitespace time.”
She says scheduling whitespace time means not answering calls or emails because “you’re occupied – with yourself.”
She recommends meditation to clear your head, turning off the TV, avoiding exercise and eating too close to bedtime.
Phone and tablet apps, including Simply Being and Pzizz Sleep can help guide you through quieting your mind and enhancing sleep.
“Sleep is a time when your body renews and regenerates,” adds Dr. Clairborne. “If you don’t get enough, you’re going to become more fatigued and won’t be as effective in your business.”
