3 Teas to Help You De-Stress

We’ve all been guilty of not listening to our bodies at one point or another, and I’m no exception. Taking a little time out of your day to pay attention to you can make all the difference. Sometimes, it seems like sparing 10 minutes is a challenge. But I found when I take a little time to refresh and renew each day, I’m ready to face the day’s challenges.

As CEO of Mighty Leaf Tea, I’m lucky enough to have my de-stressor built into our brand. The feelings you get from the right cup of tea are similar to those you might get from a short vacation, or even a quiet meditation.  Here are three ingredients that I seek out in a cup of tea when I’m not feeling 100%.

  1. Mint: Anyone will tell you that running a company is hard work. Maintaining a high level of personal energy is important to you and your team.  I find that the best way to get that energy boost is with a little mint. If you’ve ever taken a long drive and kept yourself awake with a tin of mints, you know what I mean. It’s an immediate rush to the system, with a distinct, aromatic flavor and smell, and the rush it delivers doesn’t come with the hard crash you get from caffeine. It’s also much easier on your stomach.
  1. Chamomile: When your work involves a challenging pace, “leaving work at work” is often not an option, so finding a healthy way to relax and unwind is a must. I find that chamomile is a wonderful cure for a difficult day. The scent and flavor of this flower somehow seems to slow the world down to a more manageable speed. When I take just a few minutes out of the day for a hot cup of chamomile tea, it makes a marked difference in my mood, not to mention my ability to juggle several tasks at once. Chamomile is excellent for getting into a sleep “mode”. When you spend the entire day being “on,” I find a cup of Chamomile Citrus is a great “off” switch.
  1. Ginger: You probably know how it feels already when your stomach doesn’t feel quite right. When that happens, I find there’s nothing like ginger in my tea. Drinking hot ginger tea provides relaxation. There’s a spiciness that refreshes even as it soothes the stomach. There’s a reason wasabi comes paired with ginger, after all. Turmeric comes from the same plant family as ginger, and has similar properties, with less of a bite. I’m excited to see it showing up in more places besides tea.

There are many varieties of tea out there, and we’re experimenting with new ways to help people relax, focus, and feel refreshed. With the team at Mighty Leaf, I know I’m lucky to explore tea and all its restorative, refreshing and relaxing properties right outside my office door. It’s one of the safest and easiest ways to achieve a sense of balance that is sometimes difficult to capture.
