Tips to Work Less and Enjoy Life
Focus on What Really Matters
I’ve talked to a lot of business owners lately, and they are completely swamped with work and spend hours getting everything done. How about you?
Are you overwhelmed with everything you need to do?
Are you spending extra hours in front of your computer just to get through your “to do” pile?
Do you remember a weekend when you didn’t do some work just to catch up?
If any of this sounds too familiar, you are not alone. We are all guilty of doing what we need to do to pay the bills, keep our customers happy and provide the best products and services possible.
But, you have to look at the big picture and how all of this is affecting your life right now.
There are a lot of people out there who lose their lives very young. Time is precious, and we really need to remember this as entrepreneurs. Otherwise, we’ll spend most of our lives focusing on work (instead of what really matters) so with this in mind, here are…
3 Simple Tips to Have More Fun in Life Through Focus
1. What are you spending your time doing?
If you haven’t done this in awhile, write down how you spend your time each day. You may be surprised at how long you spend posting and responding to social media comments, watching online videos and more.
Also, how long do you spend on administrative tasks like paying bills, updating databases, taking care of tax and legal documents, and more?
Once you look at the results, you may see answers staring you in the face!
Maybe you just need to cut down the time you spend on social media each day or give tedious tasks you don’t want to do to an intern or outsourced service?
2. What do you do to relieve stress?
If you have hobbies or activities you like to do away from the office, how often do you get to do these things?
If you aren’t stepping away from your computer to participate in these activities enough, it’s time to look at your schedule. Write down specific times in your calendar when you can enjoy yourself and get away from work.
While it may be difficult, it’s essential to take a break and have a change of pace on a regular basis.
This is healthy for your mind and body. And who knows? You might think of great ideas to apply to your work in the process?
3. How much time do you spend with the people you love?
It can be easy to work, work, work and have the time just fly by. Before you know it, you’ve worked long hours at the office and have neglected your friends and family.
If your life came to end sooner than you expected, would you be happy that you spent so much time working or would you regret the fact that you didn’t see the people you love more?
While I know many of you have to work to pay the bills, it’s also important to think about your life as a whole. Consider if you need to get up earlier, or stay up later, to spend more time with your friends and family on a daily or weekly basis. This is time you will never get back so really think about what you need to do to spend it on what really matters most in your life.
Don’t Get Overwhelmed. Focus.
Life is too short to spend most of it in front of a computer or at the office. While most entrepreneurs enjoy working and putting their blood, sweat and tears into their businesses, it’s also important to think about the big picture.
Focus on what matters most to you. Really look at how you’re spending your time and what you can do to have more time to do the things you want to do… with the people you love most.
