Wearable Tech: Business Fashion and the Latest Technology
Wearable technology is on the rise and business is often at the forefront of rising tech trends. Before you know it, your company will be using Google Glass and other pieces of wearable technology. But whereas a laptop, smart phone or tablet doesn’t necessarily need to match your outfit (although that is nice) if you’re wearing your technology it had better look good. As a high-flying businesswoman, it’s important that you keep up with all the latest developments. But they aren’t always designed with fashion in mind. How do you wear Google Glass without looking like an android? And how do you strap on a smart watch without it ruining your carefully put together outfit?
Google Glass
Google Glass is still in prototype stage, but Google has released it and businesses are already starting to use it. It’s great for customer service roles, or anything involved communication. This is because you can look up information without breaking eye contact with the person you’re talking to. The thing is they look a bit odd. Although the device is fairly unobtrusive, it wouldn’t be anyone’s first choice of accessory. Since the general public isn’t exactly using Google Glass just yet, there isn’t much to make it look nicer at the moment. But several designers are working on it. Ray Ban have worked on sunglasses, and Diane von Furstenberg has even released Google Glass spectacles. By the time Google Glass reaches the masses, there are bound to be more solutions to make it look great.
Smart Watches
Smart watches are another piece of handy tech for business women. They can be a watch and phone in one, and there’s no keeping it in your pocket or even holding it in your hand. Finally we can pretend we’re in a sci-fi movie. But smart watches tend to look pretty clunky. And when you’ve put together a carefully chosen business outfit, you don’t want to ruin it with a brick on your wrist. It turns out that there are companies aware of and working on the problem. Intel have even announced that they’re making a luxury smart bracelet. In the meantime though, it’s best to have an outfit that draws attention away from your watch. That’s not to say that you should go crazy, but if you have a plain outfit and then a powerful smart watch on your wrist, the watch will stand out. Buy designer clothing online and create an outfit that will outshine a shiny smartwatch.
Fitness Trackers
Tools for tracking your fitness levels are great for women who are always on the move. As you rush about at work, you can track your steps or calories burned through your clothes — or you will be able to. Tory Burch has released a line of jewelry that houses the FitBit fitness tracker. And Ralph Lauren has made a sports shirt embedded with technology (probably not suitable for work). More smart jewelry is on its way too, making it much easier to wear fitness tech at work. It looks like this is one thing you won’t have to worry about matching with your outfit.
