How to Deal with Summer Sickness and Work

Beep! Beep! Beep! The alarm blares, and my hand slams down on the button to turn it off.

Ugh. Monday morning.

And no matter how much sleep I get, Monday mornings never seem to get any easier, do they?

Well, this morning is a little worse…

My head is throbbing, and the pillow is soaking wet.

I have a giant glob of gook stuck in my throat.

And there’s nasty, yellow stuff coming out of my nose.

Bummer. I’m sick.

Well, I’ve got a million things to do today so I drag myself out of bed and stumble into the bathroom.

Ugh! Why did you look in the mirror?

My eyes are almost swollen shut, and my face is pale white. Lovely.

I wash my face, do a nasal rinse and prepare one of those drinks where you mix Vitamin C and water.

It’s time to psyche myself up and go to work… After all, I’m an entrepreneur, and the show must go on…

How about you?

Do you keep going no matter what?

What do you do when you get sick, but you have a ton of things to do?

While we know we need to rest and stay in bed to get better, sometimes that’s just not possible when you run a business.

With this in mind, here are a few ways to continue to run your business while fighting illness:

1. Handle Priorities First.

You are not running at 100% and who knows how long it will be before you crash from exhaustion?

Because of this, make a list of things you MUST do, and get them out of the way.

If you can’t take care of these priorities, have a friend or associate help you.

This way, you can finish the important tasks and then get back to bed if you need to!

2. Move Appointments.

While you may want to plow through all of your appointments, think about which ones you can change to another day.

After all, if you are meeting with other people, they don’t want your germs.

And if you are doing a pitch, interview or meeting over the phone, you will probably have a harder time concentrating, hearing new ideas and getting your points across when you’re sick.

While it’s important to keep appointments, it’s more important to do a good job at them. When you’re not feeling well, reschedule if possible.

3. Rest.

I know. As entrepreneurs, most of us don’t really know the meaning of this word.

But when you get sick, think of it as a warning sign.

Your body is trying to tell you something!

Slow down and take some time to recover.

I know, not what you want to hear. But if you don’t take the time to get better, you’ll just carry your virus around longer, and your symptoms will probably get worse.

Try to nip it in the bud. Nurse your sickness and do what it takes to get better.

Get Well Soon!

As entrepreneurs, we often think our businesses will come to a crashing halt if we are not working 24/7. And that’s simply not true.

When you get sick, listen to your body and take care of yourself.

After all, everyone gets sick, and your clients, customers and associates will understand.

Figure out the key priorities you need to take care of, reschedule important meetings to the future, and then concentrate on getting well.

Ahhh chew!!!… With that, I’m going to take some of my own advice and go lay down for a while!
