A Life Well Balanced

Got your own business but still a slave to the clock? (You know who you are!)

Our tendency to over-extend ourselves with a healthy dose of ambition can lead to a mental obstacle course, if not total exhaustion.

Enter Dina Heidger. This wife, mother of twin nine-year-old boys, and owner of Brand Central Promotions says she’s discovered the coveted work-life balance.

A go-getter by nature, she started her business after giving up a director position at a sports company.

Like all women entrepreneurs, Heidger is no stranger to late nights and early mornings. But her apparent spunk despite the lack of sleep is enviable.

She created an opportunity for balance, instead of waiting for one.

Heidger says the convenience of setting up a home office is a game changer. The freedom to work around her family’s activities is invaluable. “I knew I wanted my own hours, even if it meant longer hours,” she says.

Constructing a healthy support system contributes to the flow. “My husband is a great team player. I also have trusted sitters and friends I can turn to if needed.” adds Heidger.

And she doesn’t skimp on playtime. Heidger meets with her gal pals at least twice a month, with hubby date nights worked into the monthly mix as well.

‘Me’ time is essential. Scheduling time for exercise, a reward shoe splurge after closing a huge deal, and a good read are ways she pats herself on the back.

Her mantra? “Simplify. Clean out closets, make your work more streamlined, and don’t over-schedule. Focus on reaching the big picture with fewer steps and weed everything else out.”
