How To Move Fear Aside And Make A Shift

How To Move Fear Aside And Make A Shift There is a huge shift happening in the world. We are seeing unrest in the Middle East and demonstrations that stretch from Wisconsin to Ohio. What’s stirring inside many of us is a personal desire for transformation and a revolt against the old guard — to take control of our own destiny. People are shouting for more freedom, more balance and more love. Even Mother Nature is shaking things up.

Everyday I talk to professionals who are tired of being boxed in, who want to get out of the shadows and stand in the limelight, who have jobs that don’t make their heart sing, who want to reinvent themselves and their world. Their frustration is real, but their fear of change is greater. And that fear is what keeps them from doing what their heart desires.

Their fear stems from a feeling of scarcity, rather than abundance. It is fueled by attachments to material things and unrealistic expectations about where they should be in their career. If your gut is telling you to shift into a new job or fresh way of thinking, but you feel stuck, check yourself and your attachments.

None of us comes into the work world with a handbook on how to find our purpose and achieve fulfillment. We simply jump in and do the best we can. But, pushing yourself to keep doing things the same old way when you feel a blinking yellow light inside of you is damaging to your career and your health. It’s telling you to pay attention!

So, the next time you feel fear stopping you from embracing the shift happening inside you and out in the world, ask yourself these questions:

What am I satisfied with in this moment?

What am I grateful for in this moment?

What am I thankful for in this moment?

What do I need to accept about myself?

What do I need to accept about my current situation?

What kinds of changes can I make today?

What changes can I make in the next 90 days?

The first three questions will calm you down and put you in a happy place. The rest of the questions will ground you in reality and help you to formulate a plan of action. A couple weeks ago my friend sold his online retail company for $240 million and secured funding for a new venture. I asked him what was required to get VC backing these days. He told me that beyond a great idea which could be sold to potential buyers and solid financial projections, the principals need to have the flexibility to evolve their business concept to keep up with how fast things are changing in the marketplace.

How do you move fear aside and make a shift? You have to be flexible and adaptable in the face of this massive upheaval, just as my friend describes.

Yes. The shift is happening. Allow it to unfold and take you to a higher place within yourself, your company, your industry and the world.

If you stand still, you’ll never move forward.
